Episode 181: IP01 Multi Functional Walkie Talkie

The IP01 Multi-Functional Walkie Talkie is a drop-in case for an iPhone that serves as a 2-way radio for the UHF band. It covers 400-480MHz and is usable without a phone at all (which I demonstrate in this video) but it is made to hold an iPhone.

Check the video and let me know your thoughts – if anyone is using this device, please post in the comments below

Episode 180: Cowtown Hamfest 2019

Cowtown Hamfest

The Cowtown Hamfest is the first hamfest every year in the North Texas area. It is also the North Texas Section Convention for the ARRL, so lots of good information is presented during this hamfest each year.

We tried running a live-stream on Saturday morning this year, but the internet didn’t cooperate with us. Instead we recorded this episode which I am posting now. Thanks to the folks at the Cowtown Hamfest for allowing us to record videos during the show this year.

Episode 179: Retevis RT84 Dual Band DMR Handheld Review

A new dual band DMR HT is on the market from Retevis, with a model number of RT84. In this video, we try to load an RT82 codeplug into the radio, I show you the size comparison to the RT82, and we go through the menu of the radio. Some features of this radio match other DMR HTs and some features are different, so I hope you enjoy this short video.

Episode 178: Bridgecom BCR-40U Repeater Setup, Part 2

In Part 2, we look at the connection of the STM32 Pi-star device, build by Scott, N3XCC, and sold on the repeater-builder website.  These devices interface via the data port in the back of the BCR-series repeaters and are fairly easy to setup.  Take a look at the video for steps.

The BCR-40U repeater is the Bridgecom 40-watt UHF repeater, but lots of clubs in my home area use the BCR-220 repeater for the 1.25M Ham Radio band. If you are interested in 220 at all, you should be following this channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5JzbaXRst_EPZIH1UrXJew

Episode 177: BridgeCom BCR-40U Repeater Setup

I’ve been looking forward to getting some time to play around with, and program, one of these Bridgecom Repeaters, and now is that time. This will be the first episode in a small series, where I show the many features of the repeater, and what it can be used for. This will also be my new portable DMR repeater that I take with me when traveling, so expect to see it in several future episodes.
