Episode 50: Unboxing and Testing the Icom IC-7300

50!  I made it to 50 episodes, but more importantly – I made it because of the viewer support I have received.  Thanks to all of you who subscribe to my YouTube Channel, Facebook Group, or email list.  I am very excited to see what is in store for the next 50 videos of Ham Radio 2.0 and beyond!  Let’s talk about the Icom IC-7300 –

The Icom IC-7300 (link here) is, quite possibly, the hottest HF radio on the market right now.  I’m not sure how long that will last, the “new” will wear off of it at some point, but for now, it is a hot topic.  I have been wanting to grab one of these and review it for some time, so I finally broke-down and grabbed one.  I will be selling this radio now that the review it over – I would LOVE to keep it, but I need the money back that I have invested in it.  Perhaps I can grab another one before Costa Rica in October.

Be watching for some important updates with Ham Radio 2.0.  We’re going to see just how far I can take this show.

  1. I wonder about the tx audio adjustment. On the rig scope was clipping way different than the rcv sig, clipping a lot. Might study adjusting the tx audio for SSB.

    Nice rig.

I wonder why it took over 20 min into the video about 7300 until we even saw the 7300.

    73, ron, n9ee/r

    1. I got good audio reports from the station you heard, and from 2 or 3 other stations that I didn’t record. The TX audio seemed fine on the other end, but yes, it does have the adjustment available.

  2. 32 minutes before the antenna was hooked up? Average ham would’ve had it on the air in 5 minutes. …. Just sayin’. If this is the quality of broadcast to expect and well planned scripted dialogue (?), I’m glad I spend less of my valuable time watching these amateur (hmm…good description) radio videos. Raw at best. Go back and do it over and over until it flows and keeps the listener/viewers interest and concentrates on them instead of you. You are demonstrating a product. Be informative and keep the information flowing with the emphasis on the viewer. Create a reason for them to keep watching.

    1. The title of the video was “Unboxing and Testing of the IC-7300” – it was not “Speedtest on setting up the IC-7300 and getting on the air” Hence, it wasn’t a race or a timed event, nor was it advertised to be. Reading the description and title of the video might be of some help to you.

While I appreciate all feedback on my show (except those who just want to troll) your opinions do not align with 95% of my viewers. They do keep coming back, and most of the feedback I receive it quite positive, which is why my subscriber list is growing by 80-100 new viewers each week.

You’re right about my being an amateur with video, though. I mention that several times in the 49 videos in my series prior to this one also. I am just a ham operator with a camera that decided to share my opinions, viewpoint, and experiences with other ham radio viewers. The show may not be for you, although I do hope you will give it another shot. But if it isn’t for you, then there are plenty of other show out there that might fit your needs better. I hope you continue watching, but if you don’t, of course that is your choice.

  3. You could have done this in 15-20 minutes if you wouldn’t have wasted time showing us how you open the box. Do people have withdrawals not have Christmas every month? Otherwise it was an informative video

    1. For every comment I get like this, I get about 10-20 more saying they like what I am doing and how I am doing it. So, given that the negative-nancies like yourself are the minority, what would you expect me to do? Change what I am doing to keep the nay-sayers happy? I don’t think it would work, people who complain just like to complain and even if I did change, you would still find something to complain about.

Also, there is this thing called Fast Forward that YouTube has.
